This is the second installment in the series, and I enjoyed it slightly less; for some reason, it felt quick and had little plot. However, I still liked the atmosphere and the pleasant characters.

While it doesn’t compare to the masterpiece that is Half a Soul, I was still charmed by this story. My main gripe is that the romance felt unfinished? While it’s evident the characters care for each other, one more quickly than the other (swoon), we barely get to see them be a couple at all! I understand it is Effie’s story, but I really wish we could have had even more Lord Blackthorn – he was such a funny, whimsical character.

For such a short book and a seemingly basic plot, this was really good?? Like the whole class and being a maid and being invisible and also using her anger to help people? So good, so well done and thoughtful tbh

Light and fluffy without much substance. Very predictable and does not challenge the reader in any way. No stakes and no real understanding of regency England, history, or regency etiquette. Still cute but you don’t really have to listen or be engaged to know what’s going on.
