This book did not deliver on the immense cat-owner bonding I had expected. We go between cat and human world, each with their own tie ins to wach other and dramas, all of which were very basic and sometimes immature. Some of the stories were sweet, but I was mostly bored.
One issue I am noticing with Japanese literature is the stringent cultural standards that are never questioned or pushed in simple stories like this, and they just irk me.

A sweeping collections of vignettes about cats and their humans and small but powerful connections. I enjoy Japanese fiction and have read a lot of it over the last few years. Tonight I realised why: it’s the gentleness - almost a quietness - in their storytelling that is unlike books in other languages. It makes me think that Japanese must be a beautiful language, simple, poetic, powerful.

It's quite the interesting book, so long as you can get past a male cat calling his owner his "girlfriend" and a few sentences about a young cat getting along with an older cat that sounded a bit iffy to me.
I just decided to look at it as a young child telling people hey have a boyfriend/girlfriend or telling their parents they want to marry them. Innocent once not fully understanding the words basically. For me, that helped take away the weirdness and focus on the otherwise cute stories.
