I had a lot of trouble with this book. I was recommended this by so many different people, all of them telling me how great this books was. Sadly, I didn't emotionally connect with the story or any of the characters. They were flat. one dimensional and uninteresting. It was an extremely slow read. I was just waiting for something to happen to lift the dullness but alas, not much happened at all!
Oh and I guessed the ending of the story about a third of the way into the book :/

Fell in love with not only the charaters, but also the way their story was told.
4.5 but I'll round up.
I think I'll start with my criticisms, for there are far fewer of those than there are compliments.
First, this book was kind of slow. It's plot points were too many and far apart. Though I absolutely loved reading about Lou and her endlessly funny personality clashing with Will's sarcastic one, I found that I wished that fewer days were described. This book could've been exponentially shortened had the author chosen specific, important days rather than every day in the six months. That being said, I found that I enjoyed every single uneventful day with the lovable characters; I know I would've been craving more had it been as I suggest, so what do I know? ;)
Second, I felt that the sad, depression part was dragged on for far too long. I did not want to hear about Lou's sadness or the terrible countdown to the inevitable end. I wish the author would have sped up the story, instead of dragging us along and filling is with hope.
So, basically my only criticism is the length. But, everything else was phenomenal! I was expecting a sappy love story and/or another John Green book (an author whose books I strongly dislike.) But, despite wanting to hate this book, it was amazing, and not sappy or John Green-ish at all!
This is a truly remarkable story about living life to the fullest, the ethicality and morality of medically assisted suicide, and just life in general. It was funny, sad, and refreshing. It was realistic in the sense that love does not always triumph over all, and the book forces people to face reality instead of the all too comfortable happy ending that we are so used to in books like this. It is a story that deserves to be read with characters that deserve to be respected. I highly recommend this book and hope that you enjoy this as much as I did!

3.65 - I'm not entirely sure what I thought the ending of this book would be. I think it was a good story but not perfect, considering the topics covered. I think the exposure to ableism from this perspective could be beneficial for some and never hurts to provide perspective
Graphic: Ableism, Suicide
Moderate: Self harm, Suicidal thoughts, Terminal illness, Car accident, Suicide attempt
Minor: Sexual assault
