This was my first Stephen King book, I 100% recommend it if a slow beginning doesn’t deter you from wanting to read it. This book is SO good. It was quite slow at some points and I didn’t care for the long chapters in Misery’s world- but the tension and just Annie herself is done masterfully. Would read again!

Update: I changed my rating to 5/5 stars because this has definitely been my favorite read this year despite it being slow at some points. I think about this book a lot still, it’s a masterpiece!

Some of the language definitely reflects the fact that this was written in 1985 and it felt kinda weird. I wouldn’t consider this a scary book, but it’s definitely horrifying.

This book could’ve been 100 pages and I would’ve gotten just as much from it. The writing is very lyrical but it doesn’t need to be. There is no real backstory to justify any of Annie’s actions making her feel more impulsive in a childlike way than scary. Honestly I was either grossed out or bored through the whole book…I have loved thrillers before and I really wanted to like SK but since this is my second try I think maybe I just don’t vibe with his writing🤷🏼‍♀️

This was my first Stephen King book - I had to see what the hype was about!

I loved how dark and absolutely insane Annie is. She always kept me on my toes and I never knew what she was going to do. Is she happy? Sad? Pissed off? Drowning herself in sticky gooey melty ice cream?

My only gripe with this book is that there were portions that dragged on (and on). He also used a LOT of words to describe something so simple, almost to the point you forget what he's describing in the first place.

Overall, the suspense and storyline kept me hooked and I just had to see how this ended and the ending did not disappoint!!
