Mystery & Thrillers

There is no doubt that The Accomplice is a compelling psychological thriller that will keep you guessing. It alternates between the early 2000s when Luna and Owen met in college and 2019 when both are married. Despite Luna discovering the brutal murder of Owen's wife, they remain best friends.

I admired Luna and Owen despite my skepticism about their motives. As several characters in the book are suspected of crimes at some point, the plot quickly becomes a tasty guessing game. Everyone keeps secrets from each other which heightens the suspense and keeps you turning the pages with a great deal of interest.

I would like to thank @Random House #Partners, and #StoriesandSuspects A Bantam Mystery Box, for giving me an adventure like no other. I appreciate your kindness.

I’ve read some of the Spellman Files books by Lisa Lutz, but The Accomplice isn’t as light in tone as those books. It is more of a mystery/character study of the two main characters Owen Mann and Luna Grey who meet in college and remain very close platonic friends for years afterwards. These two close friends are always there for each other, but things may change when Owen’s wife is murdered and those closest to him think he could be responsible.

Owen and Luna aren’t always likable but their unique bond is interesting. The story, which is told from multiple points of view (sometimes changing from one sentence to the next!), is very compelling. The writing is very good and keeps the story moving back and forth between two different timelines without any confusion. With the exception of Owen’s older brother Griff, Owen and Luna’s friends and family aren’t really likable, either. In spite of this, I liked the book and was really hoping things would turn out well for Luna. I wasn’t completely satisfied by the ending because it left a few things unanswered, but it’s an interesting book if you’re looking for a different type of mystery.

Thank you to NetGalley and Ballantine Books for providing an advance copy of this ebook. The book was provided to me at no cost, but my review is voluntary and unbiased.

3.5 stars. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. Luna and Owen meet in college and become lifelong best friends. The book alternates between their college days and the present. Luna has a secret past that she wishes to keep secret. Owen becomes the prime suspect in two murders, one in college, and the murder of his present wife. The suspense is not over the top. The story relies on the characters and their friendship, more than the mystery in my opinion. It was a fun fast paced reader.

I liked this, I didn’t love it. I felt like the ending fell a bit flat for me. It had plenty of language, so fyi. From hearing that it was fast paced, meh, not so much. Entertaining? Sure.

The Accomplice was a book that I had seen everywhere and sounded like my kind of book.. It is a slower kind of thriller, with the reader being drip fed just enough about the characters and their pasts. It was highly addictive in that way, always leaving you wanting more.

The relationship of Owen and Luna was an interesting one. Best friends since college, they would do anything for each other. People always wondered if there was more to them than friendship. But they have a bond like no other. This bond is put to the test when Owen's wife is found dead, by Luna. It is not the first person to die around them and secrets from the past will rear their ugly head in search of who killed Irene.

I really enjoyed the story, the hidden secrets and intense relationships. The Accomplice is out April 14th. Thanks to Titan Books for my advanced copy to read.

Actually I liked the Passenger better, but they're different books.
