Fantastic novel. Lisa Lutz is a brilliantly entertaining novelist. She is a super writer. The book moves along quickly. Extremely engaging story. You may not totally like the main characters but they are so well drawn and they come to life so vividly that you know them. You feel them as you become deeply emotionally involved in their stories. This book is marketed as a mystery and it is a mystery but it is so far better than any mystery. It has so much depth. It is a very rewarding read.

Thanks to NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book to review.
Here's what makes Lisa Lutz's books so great:
The mysteries are realistic; the crimes/murders that are unearthed feel plausible.
Many of the characters are slackers, alcoholics, and fuck-ups, in very realistic-seeming ways.
The dialogue sounds like how real people talk.
They're imbued with her sarcastic sense of humor.
I really liked The Accomplice. Lutz's best in a long time.

A lot of folks are more hyped for this than I was. I think it’s perfectly adequate. Some of the characterization is great but where it’s lacking really hurts because it makes the reader realize that auxiliary characters are plot devices and thus, make the plot predictable. It thrills in spots but is too familiar to the rest of the genre.
