I enjoyed reading this book, quick pace with great characters and lots of secrets.
Booooooo! This book had such potential and then, ugh. A lifelong platonic friendship does bring complications, but the truth is, SO DO LIES which is really the heart of the book. No, you can't truly know someone when lies are being told to not hurt feeling or whatever. Also, I hated both these characters so at the end, I just didn't give a shit.
I just didn't connect with any of the characters. I found none of them likeable. The story was just meh in terms of how it worked out and I disliked the ending as well, simply because the characters didn't appear to learn anything from what they went through.
Over all, I think the writing was good and someone who could connect more to the main characters would likely enjoy it far more than I did.

Owen and Luna are best friends but people keep dying around them... I definitely enjoyed it, I understand how sometimes if you meet someone at just the right time, you can make a lifelong friendship. I said the characters are not likeable because they are all constantly lying to each other and keeping secrets and that's not what friends do but I really did understand their motivations. The thing that made me take off points was the ending. I should have seen it coming but I didn't and it felt a bit anti climactic for both Irene's and Scarlet's killers. I recommend the book for sure because of the good story telling and character development but it was not my favorite thriller I've ever read.
This book was less of a mystery than an exploration of a codependent (toxic?) friendship between two inherently unlikeable people. Owen and Luna have been platonic (REALLY!) BFFs since they met in college, but people keep dying around them. First, Owen's college girlfriend dies mysteriously, and then years later his wife is brutally murdered, so he looks shady AF. Luna sticks with him through it all because that's what BFFs do, right?
I can't say I loved this book, but I enjoyed reading it, and will always love Lisa Lutz's writing style - smart and snarky and funny and insightful. Also: The ferret house was hilarious.

This story is about an unlikely friendship that spans over many years with some "who done it?" and "why?" as well as "who would you being willing to lie for?"
