I was struggling so hard to get through this story, and I really wanted to finish it just because it’s such a huge moment in entertainment. But it just felt like a waste of time to make myself read something so long that I was clearly not enjoying and was not going to enjoy.

It's been in my head to read this series for awhile now...well, to even watch the TV series. But I haven't yet and then finally, I got the first book for my birthday. I prepared myself. I knew death was just a puppet master in this book, but I didn't care. I wanted to read it anyway.

And I started it. Within the first page, I was confused. I read the appendices again (highly recommend doing this first before you start reading) and again and again. Went back to the first page, made it to the second page and was back to the appendices. Seriously, there were so many characters and so many names and Mr. Martin just dropping names like we have been life long friends with Ned (which btw, is not in the appendix as Ned, it's only Eddard).

I had a slow start to this book mainly because I was constantly going back to the appendices. There was a death or what I thought was a death like in Chapter 7 and I braced myself for more.

Within a couple of chapters, I was hooked, addicted, obsessed. I couldn't put it down and I wanted to, because it's a very large and heavy book. I started to feel let down that there wasn't more deaths and more horribleness like I expected and then I realized I still had 300 more pages to go before the end of the book. Boy Howdy, was there a lot that happened. So.much.happened. Now, I'm like a heroin addict trying to get my next fix of Game of Thrones until I finally finished it.

Overall, I liked the book. I think the characters get too confusing and some characters, I just outright hated. Seriously, Sansa, you are a twit. I was surprised; I was emotional; I was captivated. But don't be surprised that the book just ends. I mean it just ended without real resolve. Normally, I hate movies and books that end like this, but as I have stated before, I'm like a heroin addict reading it. Also, expect that characters will disappear for large chunks of the book and only have one chapter before disappearing again. I'm gearing up for the next book.
