It is rare that I have to stop reading to laugh out loud, but I did in this case.
In reality this book treat of a really serious subject... Rape Culture, but there were small joke here and there that were needed to change the mood a little. This was a great read and I would recommand it to anyone after they check the content warning section. I really appriciate that there were no graphic scene in this book.

4.5 stars.  I love the way this author write his characters. They seem so real and relatable.

5 stars for writing
4 stars for the story

There are some very disturbing events which include a sexual assault and there is a lot of very strong language. The behaviors are certainly not condoned but they are present and quite graphic at times

I am way late to the game, but I finished Beartown today. If you haven’t read it, it’s highly recommended. Yeah, it’s great because it revolves around hockey. But it does so much more than that.

If you’re moderately involved in hockey, you know each of these characters in real life. It’s a good social commentary on toxic masculinity, small town mentality, blind devotion that comes with team mentality, and the pressure of youth sports. It’s a beautifully told story about how something we love has such an ugly side.

Given that I have met many a reader who was mad at It Ends With Us not mentioning its abuse, it’s important that we say this book contains a rape in a conservative town,
and does not end as one would like.
It is emotional, and creates the question of do we read the sequel, given the devastation of this one.

“One evening in late March, a teenager walks into the forest, puts a shotgun to another teenager’s forehead, and pulls the trigger.

I don’t even know where to begin with this book. Before I read the authors note, I had so many feelings about a man writing a story about the rape of a young girl, but after reading the authors note, I found out he did his research and handled it as sensitively as he could. This whole book tore me apart. As a woman I felt deeply for the victim, but as a victim myself, I felt even more connected to the victim. This whole book is a trigger warning. The assault happens in chapter 21 and everything from there is a lot of victim blaming, and it really shows the toxic culture of victim blaming and rape culture. I want to go more in detail but it was honestly just a beautifully written but triggering book. I think I will come back to this review at a later time to get my thoughts fully written out.

THIS BOOK??? I'm so glad I finally read this on Jaz's recommendation because this book was fantastic and like nothing I've ever read before. The writing is emotional, poignant and thoughtful, making us really invest in the protagonists. The slow start works perfectly to introduce us to the big cast of characters and, as the story progresses, we see how interconnected everyone and everything is, making the ending even more powerful and resounding. A truly excellent book.
