Charming characters, interesting and quirky situations, all in the foreground of the fall of the USSR. I only wish it had a bit more descriptive world-building but other than that, I loved every page. A couple twists that made me gasp out loud.

Darkly humorous and well woven! Particularly poignant right now…

This was a cool read - I liked that even though it was short stories, there was a common thread throughout, not just disconnected stories.

This was an interesting (fictional) look at life in Ukraine before and after the fall of the Soviet Union. I particularly liked Zaya and enjoyed that she was a character we returned to. I wish that the building not existing on municipal records had been more fleshed out - it felt like that idea kind of stopped mattering fairly early on. Overall though, it was a solid collection of stories.
