The characters and the idea are really good, but the writing just was not captivating.

This was the first time in the series that I really couldn't guess the twist.
I really thought the villian would be the other duke. Very happy it wasn't because I liked him alot. I hope that Artemis and her cousin will evetually be able to be freinds again. And I wish with her cousin was a bit more open minded
. I mainly liked this book because of Artemis. Maximus was fine as a mmc but I really enjoyed Artemis as the main character.

I knew I'd love Artemis and Maximus... but it was better than expected. She was his true match in every way. It was good to finally understand what drove him with that much intensity. It was good to know the depths of her loyalty and love. It was a great story that had me totally ensnared.

this stretch of the series has been so hard for me because these books are simultaneously 5 star insane masterpieces and also i have qualms.

but i should’ve trusted ms hoyt, i was making batman jokes for two books before the reveal that this guy is literally just batman. like “parents were murdered after a visit to the theater” batman

I needed a good book that I wouldn't want to put down this weekend instead of doing reasonable things like paperwork, laundry or dealing with the remains of having moved to a new appartment. Of course, I thought of Elizabeth Hoyt and as usual, she worked her magic : I didn't lift a finger but spent my time happily engrossed in reading.
Good story about a vengeance, good characters, good pacing. Bliss.

One of my favorite Elizabeth Hoyt books I’ve ever read! I love love LOVED Max and Artemis!!! This but was just ahhhh so good

Meh. Liked this one the least. Didn't card for the MMC. Will still continue to listen but I'll skip the next book which is FMC brothers story.

  • Maximus annoyed me too much for me to be able to really enjoy it. Georgian Batman is SOOOO full of himself, it was hard to get past it
  • The fact that I could TELL this man was going to try and make the FMC his mistress instead of just getting over himself and marrying her instead of someone he considered more appropriate for a duke -- I don't like that trope in general, but I CERTAINLY don't like when I can predict it just because of MMC's behavior leading up to their romance
  • Her name is Artemis! Why do you have to call her Diana?! Greek Mythology not good enough for you, man?
  • Artemis and Apollo (her brother) were so good and are the reason that I didn't DNF, because he really was insufferable to me
  • Glad she's happy with him or whatever but ARTEMIS DESERVES BETTER

He's Batman.
