This is the first book in the Maiden Lane series that I haven't loved. Maximus was just too overbearing and controlling. I didn't buy the build up to their relationship. "I will compromise you but I can't marry you because ~duke reasons~" sorry I'm tired of this excuse. Artemis had NOTHING. Maximus can get in the bin

I loved this one as well. And Maximus is by far my favourite hero in this series.
The thing I like best about Hoyt is how she really revels in the freedom that her genre gives her. These are truly Gothic Romances, complete with Bedlamite Brothers and Tragically Beautiful Sisters and Dastardly Gentlemen and she does not stint. That said, the sex scenes...the prose was a little florid. Even by Hoyt standards. Maybe it just jumped out at me more because I was listening this time? I am enjoying the series very much.

Pretty solid read/listen. Good forbidden love romance, although HR where the forbidden aspect comes from class differences and "duties" doesn't hit quite as compelling for me as when it's something else keeping them apart (I just can't seem to conjure empathy for the dukes who refuse to be with the woman they love because of societal expectations).
Wakefield was kind of eh and didn't do a ton for me, but I didn't dislike him either. Him being an absolute gonner for Artemis was pretty fun though. Speaking of, Artemis was by far the best part of this book. She was strong and interesting and fierce and so relatable - it was impossible not to want all the good things for her.

Okay, Regency Batman, I see you. You're a bit of a tool (on so many points) but Artemis is pretty great and makes up for it đ
My favorite in the series so far. I love Artemis. And do you know why I love Artemis? Because she does what she thinks is right for herself, ignoring - as much as able - the societal restrictions placed upon her. She is fiercely loyal, independent, patient,
I love it. Definitely worth reading.

and when it comes down to it, she demands respect for herself. Love is great, but it's not enough. She wants more than just to be loved. She wants a life for herself where she can respect herself. Her going to Maximus was great. Her leaving him was even better.I love it. Definitely worth reading.
I have eagerly awaited the Duke of Wakefield's book, and it did not disappoint. Artemis is the perfect mate for Maximus and the tale Ms. Hoyt spins is enthralling. I for one cannot not wait for the next installment (there will be one, right?!?). Asa and Apollo need to find their match, plus I'd love to see Phoebe find the one. Also, I'm interested in Penelope's fate :)
Lumayan lah, tp lebih suka bagian awal² daripada tengah ke akhir, female mc agak tipikal 'not like other girls' sedikit tp overall dia humble dan berani, agak relate jg sm situasinya, dia terlalu baik buat si Duke, yg kupikir agak bebal, sedikit kecewa sm Maximus tp yah ngerti juga sih perasaan bersalah tu kuat banget emg, endingnya agak lackluster dibumbui sm penangkapan main antagonist yg b aja, mirip kayak novel pertama.
Karna udah tau beberapa tokoh dr series pertama jd udh ada perasaan ketertarikan sm tokoh²nya, udh kenal dan tau sejarahnya jd gampang simpati dan karna itu aku lumayan enjoy bacanya, apalagi chemistry antar mainlead dan penggambaran bagian dewasanya, gak flat kaya buku pertama, tp ini msh bisa dibaca stand alone kok karna penulisannya emg lebih bagus dr series pertama (imo)
Kalau bukan karna male lead yg bikin gedeg sm endingnya yg lukewarm pasti aku bintang limain
Overall 4.5
Plot 3/5
Romance 4/5
Penulisan 5/5
Mystery 2/5
+18 scene 5/5

My favorite of the Maiden Lane series so far. Great plot, pacing, and conflict.
Was this book perfect? No. In particular, I hated one of the pet names the MMC had for the FMC. However. HOWEVER. I couldnât put it down. The yearning was on point, the pining was on point, the Batman-inspired shenanigans were on point. I simply adored this book. It is probably a top 5 historical romance book for me.
