Immersive writing and the story kept a good pace. I loved that the reveal was there the whole time, but not fully telegraphed until the last third of the book.  This is a story I will think about for a long time after reading.

This felt stream of consciousness, a lot of talk of social and racial issues without really relating to the 'point' of the story. It felt like they were thrown in because that's what the author wanted to talk about. It took until 75% in to learn the 'secret'. Didn't love this one or the pacing.

lots of open plot points at the end. the pacing was terrible. and the book brought up so many different social issues, which is great, but uses them like buzzwords and has a very surface level exploration of them in relation to the Centre and its founders. unnecessary rape scene (not violent, but not vital to the story). lots of detail about things that eventually don't matter by the end
