UGH so much squandered potential. But unfortunately it's predictable and the big "reveal" is anticlimactic. An incredibly interesting premise but the character was unfortunately the downfall for me. My big negatives were:
  • The plot started to feel repetitive in the middle
  • There was no real chemistry between the two relationships depicted
  • I felt the SA scene was not done thoughtfully, so it came off like an insensitive plot device

I inhaled this (I don’t want to use that phrase, but it fits) and really enjoyed 85% and then when the How/Why was revealed my enjoyment started to wane. A lot because the story just stops and a lot because the condescension caused byAnisa’s understandable surprise and disgust was infuriating.

What a glorious book!

Loved the beginning, enjoyed much of the middle, and then it ended with a soft wet thwap. Full of fun ideas in plot and ideology (religion, society, culture, class, race, etc etc) told through the eyes of an good natured and curious but entitled and somewhat spoiled MC prone to rants that are fun to follow and reflect alongside, the author sows plenty of seeds and then proceeds to do absolutely nothing with them in an infuriating way. Like, somehow the book ends with NO resolution or conclusions on either the plot or any of the myriad ideas it spent so long exploring. Still worth the read i think...

I liked the tangents the author would go on but sometimes they seemed so random that I was fully pulled out of the book. The first part of the book was excellent, the second part and the reveal could have been weirder and more out there.
