dark mysterious tense

What a ride…

At first I thought there was just some weird mind control thing going on from when they measured Anissa’s head. I NEVER would have guessed they were eating the people they were learning the languages from! And then the end - she goes back and becomes a storyteller?!

I would have given it five stars if the oral sex scene hasn’t been included. I felt it was completely unnecessary and took away from the plot.

Couldn’t think of a clear ending? Once they took the trip to India everything went downhill fast.  Almost like the author threw out what they thought was a huge twist and then didn’t know how to resolve the complex dilemma it put the main character in.

Entertaining story and premise - I kept reading to figure it out but didn't guess what it was .  I liked the discussion of languages & translations and the feminist perspective.  Although the main character and friends are said to be in their early 40's they seemed much younger to me (early 20's).

The premise was very interesting, but I think overall fell a tad flat, especially with the ending.
