I was drawn to the description of this book and the themes of translation and colonialism that were expressed but ultimately felt let down by the writing style and plot. Maybe my expectations were too high
Not something I’ve ever read before and I mostly liked it, due in large part to the narrator of the audiobook, who was excellent. Aspects of horror combined with deeper literary discussion of themes like belonging, identity, feminism made this one hard to digest at times because I’m am used to reading smutty trash. The ending threw me, had to rewind and listen back a few times and I’m not sure that it really clicks with me, but as a quick “read”, and a story focused on aspects of a culture I’d never really considered, this is worth the time
