First S Martini book for me. It was ok and kept me interested even though some non believable parts. Attorney Paul Madriani is asked by his fellow attorney and friend Nick Rush to take on a client that Nick has a conflict of interest with. Paul will not take drug cases as a matter of principle and that is what this appears to be. Nick takes the client back and both are gunned down outside the courthouse on arraignment day. Paul feels the need to investigate the case as the police don’t seem interested. Paul’s partner Harry comes off as a bit of a doofus which doesn’t really fit. The head of Nicks firm, Adam Tolt, takes an interest with what Paul knows and none of his interactions with Paul make since if he is the big wig the story makes him out to be. I figured early on that he was involved but couldn’t really make the connection. The private jet to Mexico and the Ibarra brothers just didn’t sit well with me. The story had to be wrapped up in the epilogue which I find as a cheap way out of connecting the story successfully. That was disappointing but still the story was entertaining
