this book was so spooky ! i felt just as nervous as the narrator was and i wasn’t there LOL a great quick read

There isn't much to say in this review that can't be said by reading the book itself. It's a short read (about 60 or so pages, it took me no longer than 45 minutes to finish). The writing is simple, relatable, but still effective.
There aren't any actual "supernatural" elements that induce the horror, but more so the writing of the novel and the protagonist writing his diary. It's the theories he puts forth of the ""hauntings"" that chilled me more than the actual ""hauntings"".
Some of the plot points still confuse me, but I don't mind, especially since my confusion made it more thrilling to read. At first, I wondered if the creepiness I felt while reading was because I was an amateur horror reader but seeing other reviews have convinced me that I was able to engage in Kehlmann's writing the way it was intended (which is something that made me proud at myself, knowing Kehlmann's stature as a writer).
The cover is also very satisfying to look at.
