This is a visitation. A howl. A child’s drawing on the wall of a home where death has taken up residence.

Max Porter doesn’t walk you through grief-he shatters the floor and invites in a mythic crow to raise the children and harass the father.
It’s absurd. Beautiful. Sharp. Unhinged.
And somehow, exactly how grief feels.

The language is jagged poetry, scraps of memory and metaphor stitched together by love and loss. There were lines that stopped me cold and others I didn’t understand.

It’s not for everyone.
But if you’ve lost someone, or even just lost your footing in life, you might recognize the crow.
And maybe, like me, you’ll be strangely comforted by his presence.
