I watched the show before reading the books. The show is so much better.  I think maybe back in my younger days, I would eat this up. I didn't like the characters very much. They aren't well written. They don't have any background. I just wished for more.

Not a huge fan of the series... Some friends assured me it was better than Twilight, hm no... Sorry for those who are a fan, I just thought it was so stereotyped... Especially Stefan dark and mysterious vampire... I laughed at the books the whole time I read it. Although I have to admit it is slightly innovating Elena because is a bit of a bad-ass, yet really I got annoyed by the second chapter. The only characters I liked was Damon and Bonny. I am not saying that it was bad literature or anything, I just thought that for me it was too much like Twilight (and I really disliked Twilight) so nothing transcendental in this book for me.
