Do not read this book. My ego and my reading goal was the only thing that got me through this raunchy ass book.

So much potential but was very repetitive. I came back and gave it 5 stars because I still think about this book today. Also the audio was really good compared to most.

Dante and Kat’s story started off pretty rocky, but with the trope as old as time where a mafia man takes a woman as payment for another man’s debt. If that doesn’t rile your feminist self, but float your romance boat, I don’t know what will! There was something about the initial stages of Dante and Kat’s relationship that just made me want to frown. If you’ve read it, maybe you’ll know what I’m talking about, but I was so excited and hopeful and then on a dime, was just…upset. Sadie is able to evoke deep emotions out of me seemingly so easily and I’m just lucky that HEAs are also a common theme. And I am really a sucker for a tough, mafia man turning into a squishy teddy bear for his girl! If you are too, you’re not going to want to miss this one!

I was really engaged and enjoying the first 20-30% of this book. I read a lot of Dark Romance, but I was not a huge fan of how this book was done.

The story follows Kat as she is taken by Dante in order to repay her brother’s debts. Kat is depicted as being very strong and a fighter. That is quickly short lived once she starts feeling attracted to Dante. The other main character, Dante, felt more like a master manipulator? He never really apologizes to her and there didn’t seem to be enough groveling.

The story started off strong and then story lines started to fall a part. I know this is the first book in this series, but it seems like it would make more sense if Lorenzo’s story came first? I know she alludes within this book that his wife is going to die but still.

TW: the story does contain themes of sexual assault. I know, Dante, is depicted as trying to help Kat through her trauma, but I was not a fan of how that plot line was written. It’s written in a way that makes it seem like she worked through years of trauma from an assault in a matter of a couple of weeks. And during some parts (mostly at the beginning), it felt like he was violating or felt as though he was above her boundaries. I don’t know how to explain it, but I really didn’t like the premise of the way she was working through her trauma was depicted.
