I've been carting a weathered, yellowed copy of this book around for over a decade. I must've picked it up in a used book store on a trip, because the price of the book is penciled on the inside in a foreign currency. I finally decided that 2024 was the year this book would stop taunting me from my shelves! It must be good if I've moved it across multiple states and brought it back from somewhere abroad, right? Right?!

WRONG. Instead of loving it, I've been hating it. It put me in a reading slump and I've only managed to get 30 pages in 2 weeks after starting it. Reader, it is not good. I'm giving myself peace and saying adios Picnic at Hanging Rock, I don't care what went on with these girls! I wish your picnic had never happened <3 Stay missing!

& I am very tired of all "good" characters being thin and beautiful, and all "bad" characters being fat and ugly. Booooooring. Yawn. Snore.

I loved the sense of place and the writing. You do feel like you are caught up in the story and in another place. It reads like a true story. I was frustrated by the plot, I must say, hence the four stars and not five.
