This is the book everyone should have to read, not 1984. This author is much better at world building and character development! I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and I'm already recommending it to friends. It is quite graphic, but as a reader, you really feel like you are in the IngSoc world. My only complaint is that there were several times where the story drug along and lost my interest for some time before something else happened. Part four was especially slow in my opinion, although I quite liked the ending

with the explicit comparison of the Party and the rebels showing that you can't win in that kind of a war.

I read 1984 30 years ago and wasn't going to read it again for this and I am not sure I needed to.
I was here for a retelling if 1984 from Juila's perspective and it delivered there- her backstory and everything she has to give over, give up and destroy to not only just survive but also enjoy her life to what extent she could. At 155 pages in I was bored. The writing was dense and repetitive and the plot lines confusing. It was just flat.
