The book was fun in many ways. It had a lot of the right ingredients. But I had such a hard time paying attention. Restarted the book four times. Lots of great passages, but overall, I couldn’t get into it. Kept at it because the movie looks good, though I realize it’s a somewhat different premise. Hope the movie is better!

I put this on hold at my local library a month before it came out back when there was still buzz about Taylor swift or a swiftie being the author. It has since come out that 3? people collectively wrote the book I think based on the script for the movie. I truly think this was AI generated or something. It took me an HOUR to get through 31 pages and I normally read about a page a minute. The prologue was rough it was like Russian propaganda?? I’ve never DNFed before but today’s the day because I can’t sit through the rest of the 338 pages. It’s apparently very different from the movie anyway so if you’re interested I would just see that. I think I will forget about this book and not blink an eye. Unsuccessful bait and switch marketing strategy for putting the book out at the same time as the movie AND for tricking swifties into purchasing this book.

It was fine, I wish it was more about Aubrey and his growth. It got lost in the plot and with Francis. The POV changes to her kinda gave it away at the end. Also like the end wasn’t super satisfying mostly trying to set up for future adventures but yeah. Aubrey deserved more complex growth other than “get cut his hair” you feel?

Argylle is an action filled spy thriller with a mystery author. While the characters could do with more detail, the plot is embedded with historical information, mysterious missing Nazi artefacts and an evil Russian aiming to win an election by finding the famous Amber Room taken from Russia in WWII.

Aubrey Argylle inadvertently saves some US operatives while working as a tour guide in Thailand (and trying to track down information about his parent's deaths) and ends up on the CIA's radar. The team he's assigned to appear to have a traitor in their numbers and their leader is determined to get answers. A romp through Europe follows, taking the group to France, Belgium and Poland, with plenty of action on the way as they're chased by Russian operatives.

Don't expect the upcoming film to be based on the plot at all but it would make a fun action film in it's own right!
