An awesome start of a new series! I just stumbled upon this book while looking for my next fantasy/romance and wow! It has the best of some of my favorite tropes: doppelganger/switched places, enemies-to-lovers, modern women sent back in time (or in this case, to another world entirely).. all of my favorites twisted into something new! The characters were likable, Romy's reactions were entirely believable, the world building was phenomenal- there is no easy answer to the trouble that plagues the kingdom of Islor- except for maybe getting rid of the curse that forces the people of Islor to
Spoilerdrink blood/become vampires
to begin with.. but even that would uproot everything everyone knows. They are born this way and most haven't known anything else. I hope there will be more books because while it's not quite a cliffhanger- it is close. The story wasn't finished and I need to know what happens next!

Perfect for fans of:
From Blood & Ash, Jennifer L. Armentrout
The Bridge Kingdom, Danielle L. Jensen
The Wrath & The Dawn, Renee Ahdieh
A Crown of Wishes, Roshani Chokshi

Such an enjoyable isekai fantasy romance!

Tbh, the beginning was a slog. But after the main character, Romy, went into fantasy world, the story picked up and I couldn't put it down.

This book is filled with court politics (including scheming and assassinations) and great, well explained worldbuilding. While I'm not into politics, it was handled in an entertaining way, and I found myself quite intrigued.
The slow-burn romance was there but not as prevalent as the other two, I'm hoping to see more of it in the next book. I inhaled the one-horse trope like a true addict though.

I loved FMC from the get go. She is smart, she knows how to adapt and how to survive, and she's not an immature irritating mess. I liked Zander as well, but I wanted more of him. The chemistry between them was fantastic.

Can't wait to start Book 2.

This book had some wild pacing because there were times when I was GRIPPED and times where I couldn't get myself to pick this up. I think this was a refreshing take on a couple romantasy tropes, but also didn't have a true high point in the drama like I've come to expect from the genre. The last half felt super flat compared to the first half, and there were certainly a number of scenes that felt needlessly repetitive. Overall though, I really enjoyed the concept and will consider continuing the series to see what happens now that the dam has burst.
