I started this book 3 times and on every single try I would read 40 pages , put the book down and never pick it up again . I couldn’t understand how modern New York had anything to do with magic , demons , immortals and fates . At the start of the book everything feels so confusing, unfamiliar and my god everyone is so secretive! But on my fourth try I pushed myself to read more and trust the process and boy am I glad that I did. The story really picked up , I love that there are so many mysteries and we figure it all out with Romeria. I loved reading her reaction and thoughts about how this new world works .
Romy is a really good character , I love how passionate she is about being human and refusing to change those qualities about her. But she did fall for Zander too quickly . One second they hated each other then they started teasing and immediately had sex . Their relationship feels more like allies with benefits rather than anything romantic.
Zander , Zander , Zander … He feels like a wall most of the time and I don’t blame him, he is caught in between loving and hating the person who attempted a coup behind his back and thankfully failed. Because of this in the smut scenes it feels like he is using her because he can . Hopefully in the second book we explore his traumas and he can learn to trust again. I WAanT tO KnOw WhaT ThIS bOY ıS FeELinG!!!!!
Overall the world building is amazing . I love that the fates have beef with one another. Don’t like that they use humans as pawns though . Cannot wait to learn more about the magic system . Really loved this book <3.

When I first started this one, I wasn't sure how it was going to go. I felt a little lost but as the book went on, I found myself getting more and more sucked in until I didn't even realize how hooked I was. Books like this can be hard. When the main character is removed from her world and thrust into a new one without any knowledge of what is going on, we as readers are also completely lost and it feels a little disorienting initially. It's like we're right there with the character as they discover every little new thing. What I liked was that while I felt lost in the beginning, as I started to unravel what was happening, I really felt like everything just came together.
Now for the characters. Romeria was a hard character to love. She's been burned a lot in her life by people close to her and has pretty much had to survive on her own her entire life. She has a hard time accepting anything from anyone and her attitude is very prickly. She also doesn't like not knowing things which obviously makes this a fun experience. Since she's basically thrust into someone else's body, it's hard to tell immediately who this new person she's supposed to be is. Is she good? Is she bad? Should we root for her? What outcome do we actually want? These were questions I had the entire time I read the book - and honestly I still have a lot of them - but Tucker had a way of rolling out little snippets of info like breadcrumbs. And I ate them up.
I want to know more about Zander because I feel like we barely scratched the surface of his character here. I think because we were mostly focused on Romeria and having her understand her new world, Xander was more of a side quest almost. But I'm really hoping that there's more to him than this surface character we've seen so far. Like he's a prince who feels for the humans in his kingdom and wants to make difference - but what is he doing about it? What has he done about it? I just need a little more from him.
Overall, I think this was a great first book. I'm hooked and can't wait to read the rest of the series.
