I meant to read this critically for book club and started on chapter 2 or 3 this afternoon when suddenly 4 hours had passed and the book was over.

I still don’t know what happened but I had a great time getting sucked into this queer YA romance

Just a classic, well executed contemporary YA.  The audiobook narrator's choice to say every other line like she was choking back tears grated a little and left the impression that the book was taking itself too seriously.  However the exploration of being young and queer in a smalltown was thoughtful and rang true.
The parents' about face at the end felt a little abrupt to me.

Oh my god….as of right now this is my favorite read of 2024. The storyline, the writing, the love, the pain, just all of it was so amazingly told…this book grips you into it from the first chapter and the story just gets better and better within time. This book is absolutely a tear jerker and I would read it over and over again. Highly recommend!

There isn't much to say about 'Forget Me Not' except that it was an emotional rollercoaster. I felt like it should have been much more of a slow burn between Stevie and Nora - I definitely think they jumped back into a relationship far too quickly, but I also understand they had already established an unspoken connection between the two. The ending felt rushed and the choices made by the protagonists parents felt totally out of character. However, I can see how this novel was made to give those queer kids living in a conservative small town hope. Overall, it was a fun and sweet piece of work, and it did invoke a tasteful tear from me. I shall definitely be reading the rest of Alyson Derrick's body of work.
