Got this for free, Thompson gave it out at the beginning of the pandemic on his website. He's dropped off the face of social media, unfortunately. I hope he's ok.

Anyway I don't think any story stood out from this bunch but they were a good distraction from the early days of the pandemic.

Thompson is considered a science fiction writer (for good reason; the Wormwood trilogy alone makes that declaration), but he dabbles in a handful of genres. This short story collection, self-published and released for free, gives us a sample of the kind of fiction he writes. It's all pretty dark, steeped in African culture and magic, but it's all well told and compelling. There were a couple of stories I just didn't get, but I think that's more me, looking for genre and story, when the author is going for something more literary.

Still, five out of seven stories are pretty good (with "Household Gods" being the standout, even if it's reminiscent of Neil Gaiman in some ways), and that puts this collection at 3.5 stars, rounded up to four because I like Thompson's style.
