The second instalment in the “Camper & Criminals Cozy Mystery” series, and it was not a disappointment. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Another day for Mae West, and she’s in the wrong place at the right time, i.e. when the body is found. Of course, Mae, being a bit of a busybody, but also wanting to help everyone, sticks her nose into the investigation.

Here’s the deal. She is helping out, as per usual, her friend Betts Hager, by cleaning a house for one of her clients. This client, Tammy Jo, is a complete nut job with a toy poodle named Fifi that is like her child. I could say more, but I don’t want to because it will give too much away, but suffice to say that Fifi plays an integral role … and no, she’s not the killer … sheesh!!

Camille, the nanny, ends up with a knife in her chest in Tammy Jo’s office. Of course, Tammy Jo is arrested, and somehow Mae ends up having to take care of Fifi. That alone was a hoot and a half because you just knew something was going to go wrong there. Nothing bad happens to the dog, and in the end (SPOILER), Mae ends up with Fifi as a permanent roommate. I’ve said enough.

As with the first book, Kappes did not disappoint with the snappy dialogue, funny situations and being able to flip things in such a way that nothing is as expected.

None of these cozy mysteries are 5-star reads for me, but let me tell you, giving this a 4-star means I loved it. I think, perhaps, they are a bit too short to sink your teeth into them, but I love being able to finish one of these in an evening. And if it tells you anything, I have already picked up the next book and I'm looking forward to reading it!

Another cozy mystery that was easy to listen to and didn’t take much brain power to follow while doing the chores! This book is centred around the murder of Fifi’s nanny … Fifi is a white poodle who has a very… let’s say particular owner. Not big on the love triangle involving May that seems to be becoming more of a thing but I can look past that. I adore the Laundry Club ladies and their gossiping ways. In this book also introduces Mays foster brother, Bobby Ray. Looking forward to continuing this series

This book kept me company while I was clearing out my house, and I really appreciated that. It was perfectly entertaining without being too distracting. Lighthearted and fun—I’ll definitely continue with the series.
