Sequels are always a flip of a coin for me either they disappoint me or leave me wanting more.

I'm glad to say that this did not disappoint!

It picks up right after the events of the first book where Claire's sister Beth has made contact.

You follow Clare and Dorran's journey as they make the treacherous journey to find her sister while still having to face the hollow ones.

Darcy's writing sticks with you long after you close the book and as the reader you feel all the emotions the characters are feeling as they struggle to survive in this post apocalyptic world.

I am very keen to dive into the 3rd and 4th books in this series.

4/4.5 Stars! Jeez what a cliffhanger?! I need to read the next book! Beth is alive! Omg I have so many questions. I wanted to slap Dorran . He thought Clare was just going to leave him?! LOL. But I’m so afraid that he’s sick! What’s going to happen to him. He cannot die. I’ll hate it all! Ugh I’m stressed. What happens next?!

This book did not disappoint. I’ve been on the edge of my seat for every reading session I’ve had and wow! It’s made me anxious to read the next one! Just such a great mix of horror, romance and suspense.

This book was an ok read. I liked how the author wrote the plot, her characters, and the twists were pretty good. I just wish that the book was more scary. I got this an ARC from Netgally

I ate this up and I will be eating the third one as well. Cannot believe I am having such a good time with an apocalypse story but Clare and Dorran continue to have me in a choke hold.

Secrets in the Dark continues off right where book 1 Voices in the Snow ends and we jump right into the story.

I have a lot of feelings for this book and almost 98% of them are great and amazing the 2% I didn't like I'll explain at the bottom it will be hidden in spoilers since it is very very spoiler-y so, you have been warned.

Well I wanted to know what happened to Claire's sister Beth, now I know.... Even though we haven't actually met Beth we learn a lot about her from Claire and you can't help but like her. Beth is the overprotective mom-sister and you can't help but feel for Claire as she struggles to hope that Beth is alive.

In this book you get to see more of how the world has changed and is affected by the Hollows. We get to explore new places and face new dangers. We also see Claire struggle with how the world has changed, her morals, and her grief as she encounters people she once knew. I understand Claire's heartbreak during a certain scene but I also didn't like how she blamed Dorran, it was almost like she was looking to blame someone rather than deal with her own feelings and guilt.

That last chapter has me on the edge of my metaphorical seat. What a wild frickin ride, man. I was on the verge of tears I was so worried when the fate of one of my favorite characters was literally hanging in the balance and the worry still isn't over.

In this book we get to learn how the Stillness happened and what actually cause the Hollows. It was honestly pretty scary because the why is something that could actually happen if people aren't careful and that's frightening.

Now, there are absolutely major spoilers for the end but I need to rant so it’s going to be hidden. Read if you want too. But be warned this spoils the last few chapters of the book and a big revel from the middle and end.

!You have been warned!

I did not see Peter actually being Ezra which, I find kind of ironic because I should have caught it. It’s the oldest tick in the book, as the saying goes, and it didn’t even cross my mind; I was just like. “Oh he’s nice I hope he doesn’t try to keep them there or hurt them.”.  I hope to God, Ezra’s code didn’t do irreparable damage to Dorran. I mean he was only under the “cure” for a few seconds maybe a minute at most but the after effects he's having has me really worried. Claire’s fight with Ezra made me so mad. I understand how, in the heat of the moment when someone you love is in pain and hurting, how it can cause you to act irrationally. But Claire down right ignoring Dorran’s very smart plan of going for the gun was so stupid in my opinion. It would have been nothing for her to grab the gun shoot Ezra or ever just hold him at gun point and then easily disable the code. Or disable the code and then get the gun then let Dorran out. I don’t know why it pissed me off so bad that she did the exact opposite of this. Maybe because I know this could have all been avoided.

DID NOT FINISH: 59%

There are elements that I really love about this book and I love Darcy Coates but I've been trying to read this one for months. It just feels so slow. It'll have really great moments of action but then there's just a lull. I kept pushing through to see if it would pick up but it just hasn't for me. I don't know if I'll pick this one back up again
