Despite my not liking this book, I will say, this is one of the most accurate pictures of motherhood I’ve seen in a CR novel. I found myself relating in many moments. Overall though, just felt meh to me.
I finished this book in just one night, I could not put it down. It was different than a lot of other books in this genre and it’s easily one of the best I’ve read this year. I can’t wait to read more from this author!
I needed a good palate cleanser and this was AMAZING!!!! I laughed, I teared up, I felt seen as a single mom, and as an overwhelmed mother. Maddie and Garrett are perfection in this book. The diagram of their homes was incredibly helpful to someone that can't always imagine how things fit in descriptors. Like I always seem to imagine different ppl than most when seeing the fancast tiktoks. It's SO nice to get help with that. I'll read the other books in the series and also kinda want to see how Lilian does fantasy.
i love maddie and garrett so so much. and jamie and layla oml my favs. This is literally somehow my first single parent read and its genuinely beautiful and i love the way in which maddie’s story was told. and garrett was literally the sweetest ever but the whole sudden switch up was kind of sudden and i wished we couldve seen more of them as an actual couple at the end since it was such a slowburn. but other than that, i love them. oh and jamie is literally the cutest child ever (the scene he asked to play soccer literally broke me.)

“what are you thinking then?”
“that maybe we can meet halfway”
As a kid who only had his mother because his father was a huge ass, reading it from a mother's perspective was something new. I really can't describe how much this book means to me. This book deserves so much more than 5 stars and if I could, I certainly would. Madison is one of my top 10 favorite female characters and my favorite fictional mother. I love her so much, she was such a strong character with a big heart who went through a lot and tried everything to make sure her son is fine.
Yes, and of course my boy Garrett i love him. He was an asshole at first but his development was so well written and i will never get over how sweet he was to her son.

When I first started reading this book, I thought it would end up being a much higher rating however it really started going down hill from about halfway through.
The main reason for the low rating in this book is the way in which DV and sexual assault was handled.
The MMC was blaming the FMC for having trauma from being in a DV relationship which was still ongoing. As someone who has lived that experience, this was handled horribly.
I wouldn't read this again or ever recommend it to anyone. It was a book that I should have DNF'd.

This book was a real slow burn. You barely got to experience Garrett and Maddie as a couple at all. Their chemistry was great and I enjoyed the book but I wanted to see them together more. I wanted to get more of the mundane shit of them being together as a family. I think Garrett was so good for them and he really loved them down which was super cute I don’t really understand why it was such a slow burn. Also it wasn’t a dual pov which is my preferred style so I really missed being able to read Garrett’s perspective on stuff but it was still all encompassing I didn’t think I was missing out on details or anything just wish I had that extra bit of insight.
I don’t know what it is about this book, but I find myself rereading it every few years because something about it has just stuck with me. A great story with great characters. I love the strength and determination Madison has. I love how Garrett is there to support her.
