Wát een teleurstelling. En ik ben zo enorm verzot op deel 1 en 2!
Dit deel miste voor mij samenhang. het voelde niet aan als 1 groot avontuur, maar meerdere kleinere mini-avontuurtjes. Dat hoeft niet erg te zijn, maar ik vond de rode draad niet heel duidelijk.
Alle kleine avontuurtjes voelde meer aan als ideeën die de auteur had tijdens boek 1 en 2, alsof dit boek is opgebouwd uit de eerder afgeschreven situaties omdat ze toen niet in het geheel paste, maar dat ze te leuk waren om helemaal weg te gooien.
De ontknoping vond ik ook heel erg teleurstellend voor hoe de rest van de serie is.
Het hoofdpersonage heeft in dit deel ook wat meer het Harry Potter-syndroom dan in de andere delen. Hij kan alles oplossen en zijn vrienden ondersteunen hem alleen een beetje, en dan ook maar een heel klein beetje. Heel jammer.
Al met al kan ik gewoon geen reden verzinnen waarom dit boek een tweede ster zou verdienen, en dat is wel heel ernstig voor een serie waar ik zó dol op ben om te verkopen als deze. Ik denk zomaar dat ik hem nu minder vaak aan zal raden, want zo'n ontknoping van een serie doe ik kinderen liever niet aan.

To me the pacing of the beginning of this installment was a little off. The first quarter or so of the book felt very rushed, and more "tell" than "show." At the same time it was clear there was a point August was trying to get to in Arlo's story, and this last volume was exciting and gave some wonderful character growth.
I feel many author get stuck in the mindset of knowing their characters instead of growing their characters, and I really love the Arlo series for letting Arlo (and the other characters too!) grow and questions and change and discover.
Overall a satisfying finale and a wonderful trilogy.

This book was great! If you've read the previous two books, it's a must-read, and if you haven't? What are you waiting for? Read the first two!
In the final book in the Arlo trilogy, our hero is going to rescue his father (with the help of his friends, of course). Unlike the previous two books, this finale is action packed with everything snowballing into awesome action scenes! I was very satisfied by the end of the book with how everything came together, however I did wish that the book had been longer so those epic plot points could have hit home even harder. That's seriously my only real complaint with the book, that I wish it had been longer.
I do have to say, Lake of the Moon was my favorite in the series because of how much the characters were allowed to develop over the course of the book. This one is my second favorite, if only because of all the amazing payoffs. Definitely recommend both this book and the entire series!
