Ok, this book is a bit on the cheesy side, I'll be honest. But somehow, it works? Natasha and Daniel's improbable love story is cute when you suspend disbelief a little and realize that it's teenage love, and teenage love is unprobeable, unrealistic, and unrequited. If this story was about two 30 year olds living in NYC, well.....I'd say it's a ridiculous plot line. But two seventeen year olds with only today? Yeah, it works.
The climax of this story really maddened me. Props to Yoon for creating characters so realistic that I gasped when we found out who had betrayed Natasha. I honestly didn't see it coming. But the Epilogue provided some much-needed closure that I wasn't sure was coming.
Overall, a nice read. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a simple but powerful love story, or for anyone looking to read about first loves, BIPOC characters, and imperfect family situations.
Moderate: Suicidal thoughts
