“If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that you rarely get second chances in life, so if this is the universe giving me one, I’m taking it.”
This is one of the best second chance romances I have ever read. This is only the second book written by Paisley Hope that I have read so far (the other was Wolf.e and I loved that one too) and I am definitely going to go through her backlist after this. Rowan was the absolute sweetest and most playful of the MMCs in this series. The way he instantly fell in love with Violette’s daughter Hollie just melted my heart. I am a sucker for the “it has always been you” microtrope and the way it was executed here using the flashbacks was perfect. There was just the right amount and pacing for them to pack the right emotional punch without bogging down the story. I love the relationships between all the characters in this found family of wildland firefighters, and the beginnings of the Vi’s friendships with Scottie and Teddy starting to bloom was a great addition too. Rowan in particular showed the importance of showing up for the people you care about in your life. Seeing him and Violette working to overcome their pasts together and beginning to heal was so beautiful.
“I don’t know about fate, or about life’s twists and turns to get you to the place you’re supposed to be, but I wouldn’t trade my journey for the world if this is where I get to land.”
