In July 1943 my great grandmother’s habit of having clocks at the wrong time caused my then 24 year old grandmother to miss the bus and thus potentially saved her life. She was planning to go to the cinema in East Grinstead, so as soon as East Grinstead was mentioned as being where Thelma’s mum lived I knew she was done for.

3.5 stars. An enjoyable read for the most part, including a delightfully detestable villain. A couple of parts were a slog to get through, and the wartime setting felt… off? …in a way I didn’t feel for the first two Emmy Lake books. My hatred for Cressida Porter really motivated me through this one!

I think this was my favorite of the Emmy Lake chronicles!
