My kids love this series. I would have liked to see more female main characters, but my kids give up screen time to read these books so I'll cope! I helped them read this one and one of the details I really liked is that the characters are based on real pigeons.

The author and illustrator have some fun videos to go with the books: https://realpigeons.com/the-super-coo-club/"

I highly recommend this for kids who've just learnt to read and are looking for something a bit more challenging.

A book that is perfect for reluctant readers, Real Pigeons Fight Crime is a fast-paced, hijinks-filled romp, following a team of crime fighting pigeons as they solve one mystery after another in this chapter book hybrid.

Bold drawings accompany engaging text, as Rock, the new recruit to this crime-fighting squad started by Grandpouter Pigeon, leads the charge with his ability of disguise. The pigeons encounter a "haunted" park, a bat trapper, and some danger at a food truck rally. Each of these encounters are their own contained story, easy for younger readers to pick up and put down, or for more advanced readers to breeze through.

The illustrations back up the humor in each story. Showing the uniqueness of each pigeon (who all exist in real life---the pigeons are actually named after their type: Rock, Tumbler, Frillback, Homing, and Pouter), the individual pigeon embodies what that type is known for, and lends their talents to round out the crime fighting team. Seeing the world through Rock's eyes is fun since he is newly experiencing what the "big city" has to offer along with the reader.

Cute, quick, and engaging, Real Pigeons Fight Crime is a great start to a very fun series! The next book in the series, Real Pigeons Eat Danger, is coming out May 5, 2020, so look out for that next "Very Coo" adventure!

Synopsis: Ever wonder why pigeons always act so weird? It’s because they’re out there chasing the bad guys and saving your butts!

Did you know your city is protected by a secret squad of crime-fighting pigeons? It's true! With master of disguise Rock Pigeon, bendy Tumbler, strong Frillback and super-finder Homey, the REAL PIGEONS will solve any mystery and fight any bad guy to keep the city safe!

Perfect for fans of Aaron Blabey's Bad Guys and Dav Pilkey's Dog Man books, the Real Pigeons series is a hilariously silly and highly visual introduction to the joys of reading and crime-fighting for readers 6+.

In Real Pigeons Fight Crime, Rock and his mystery-solving friends will tackle their first caseload: Why have all the breadcrumbs disappeared? Who on earth is kidnapping bats? And can the pigeons avert a dinner disaster??

Review: Oh my goodness this book is such a fun read! It’s great for younger kids and it’s so clever with the little mysteries! Definitely a great starter read if your little one is inquisitive and intuitive. The book is very graphic heavy, which is great for beginning chapter readers and reluctant ones too. This book is also hilarious and it has a great conclusion to it as well.

Verdict: Definitely a must read for younger mystery lovers!

This was loads of fun! 3 stories about pigeons who fight crimes: saving bats, rescuing humans from stink bombs and figuring out why there are no humans in the parks! This will go down really well at school! Pigeons who are masters of disguise? Love it! Brilliantly illustrated and there’s more in this series so sign me up!!

Pretty sure this is going to be hugely popular, especially with the [b:The Bad Guys: Episode 1|25448261|The Bad Guys Episode 1|Aaron Blabey|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1430289643l/25448261._SX50_.jpg|45213051] crowd, because this is kind of like a trying-too-hard version of that. It's too long (why not three books if you have three separate plots????), the font isn't my favorite (it's cramped and kind of hard to read sometimes), and the humor didn't really appeal to me (the naked pigeon butt at the end will absolutely get laughs from the target audience, but it just weirded me out). I don't think this will be difficult to sell, though, and I enjoyed the pigeon facts at the end as well as the focus on teamwork throughout all three stories.
