Three years ago, Spencer, Anna’s husband and the love of her life was tragically killed in a car accident. Despite the best efforts of her friends and family to help her move forward, Anna’s still shattered by grief. On New Year’s Eve, she calls Spencer’s old cell phone number, expecting to hear his voicemail, only to hear a new voice. Spencer’s phone number has been assigned to Brody. Brody is not a stranger to grief, and he becomes the first person Anna can talk to that understands her experience. Through her conversations with Brody, Anna can start moving forward. But Brody has secrets that, if exposed, will threaten their relationship.
This is 100% my cup of tea when it comes to books! It has romance, but also depth and complexity. The story centers around grief and the dark place many people struggle to emerge from when a loved one dies. I cried so many tears while reading this story. It’s such a gorgeous narrative. The story alternates perspectives between Anna and Brody. I fell in love with Anna and Brody and their unique stories and situation.
I highly recommend this for fans of Josie Silver, Me Before You, and Dear Emmie Blue.
Thank you to William Morrow for the gifted copy. All opinions are my own.

I received an ARC of this book that is due to publish in June 2021. The novel follows Anna whose husband died and she is still grieving her loss. One night she decided to his old number only to find out it has been reassigned to someone else and she starts to talking to this person regularly and strikes up a friendship. Brody is the one she called but is keeping secrets about his life that he’s not sure he wants to tell. I really liked this novel particularly Anna’s character and how it realistically captured grief. I also liked how both her and Brody’s stories worked together in the storyline. This is the first book that I have read from Fiona Lucas and am looking forward to reading more!
I was a little apprehensive when I delved into this, after recently having lost my sister. I will admit, the descriptions of Anna's grief was so true, honest and poignant, I wouldn't be surprised to learn Lucas is grieving too. They were extremely painful to read, but also gave me strength that someone understood some of what I'm feeling. The guilt and regret are sometimes as strong as the pain of loss.
The characters were wonderful, and I was so moved by their stories that this will stay with me long after finishing. I honestly think I feel stronger mentally because of it.
A strong novel with a powerful message that I won't forget.
Thank you, Fiona Lucas.

This is a beautiful story about grief, moving on, and overcoming fear. I loved both Anna and Brody as characters and they both brought unique perspectives to the book. My one complaint is that I wanted to see Anna and Brody together for more than just a moment, but overall a very sweet book.

This story was so moving. Anna's husband died almost three years ago, and she knows precisely when to the number of days. Her friends and family want her to move on, but she doesn't expect to. On a particularly low evening, she tries to call his phone number.
Brody is more of a mystery. It's clear he has also experienced loss and grief, and he is there for Anna in a way that others in her life haven't been able to be.
The book handled grief in such a real way, showing how deeply individual it can be and how many emotions it can contain. It's not an easy book to read. For me, it was an important one that touched me.

This book! I finished it two days ago and I’m still thinking about it! The Last Goodbye was so good I really didn’t want to say goodbye to it! Anna Berry’s husband, Spenser, died in a tragic accident over two years ago. She still calls his phone to hear his voice on his voicemail message. They had a secret way of saying I love you. When she told him, he would reply, “I beg your pardon?”
Imagine her shock when she calls his number on New Years, says she loves him and a voice asks, “I beg your pardon?”
So begins Anna’s relationship with reclusive children’s author, Brodie Smith. Brodie is also reeling from a loss. The two help each other realize that in order to move forward, they have to make peace with the people and relationships in the past.
This book felt like all the romances of the past: Sleepless in Seattle, An Affair to Remember, Moonstruck.
I absolute loved this book! I listened to this one on audio and the narration was excellent!
