The Last Goodbye

It was beautifully written and shows that grief is a process and can look different no matter how much time has passed.
Not going to lie, it would never happen to me since I don't ever answer the phone

"Everyone Anna knew had questions in their eyes these days when they spoke to her. Often, the same questions. But they were afraid of saying the wrong thing. Or not saying the right thing. Anna lives in a minefield of eggshells."

Anna lost the love of her life, leaving her world shattered. On New Year’s Eve, Anna she calls his phone to hear his voice, but someone new has already got his number. When Brody pick's up the phone he empathises with Anna, and soon they're chatting more often as they begin to open up to each other.

This is a beautiful, hopeful and devastating story about loss and healing. When I read the synopsis I didn't know how the author would make this concept work but she sure did. I was so invested in Anna's story and honestly couldn't and feel very protective over her. I enjoyed that you get to hear Brody's perspective but are kept in the dark about his history like Anna is.

Anna and Brody's connection felt so genuine and it's was so heartwarming that they were able to help each other heal and learn to smile again. I was so invested in their relationship and was screaming as soon as they started to catch feelings. I think the author did a wonderful job showing grief and trauma and I felt my heartbreak for these characters.

I was happy with the ending and totally recommend this. I think this should become a movie, it was just very well written that it played like a film in my head. Overall highly recommend this and don't think I will forget this story anytime soon. I can't wait to see what the author writes next.

Fiona Lucas introduces us to Anna. Anna lost her husband Spencer three years ago. She is trying to cope, but how does one get over the loss of their best friend and soulmate. One night seeking comfort, she dials his phone number just to listen to his voice mail, only someone answers. That someone is Brody, someone getting over his own loss. Anna pours out her soul to Brody and a telephone friendship develops.

Lucus shares a poignant story of survival, overcoming loss and healing. Her insight into the different ways people mourn was brilliant. From Gayle, Anna’s MIL who seems to compete at who feels the loss more, to the concern of friends who push Anna to move forward.

The friendship that evolves and develops between Brody and Anna will tug at your heartstrings. The characters, particularly Anna, were well developed, and I connected with her. The last quarter of the book was fantastic and heartwarming.

If you’ve ever lost someone you’ll find this story heartwarming. Even as I felt their grief, the author uplifted the reader as her characters moved through the stages of grief and learned to live again.

Antonia Beamish was delightful as the narrator, although I had to increase the speed to get her to sound more natural to my ear. The story lends itself nicely to audio, and the narrator gave each character their own distinct voice. This review was originally posted at Caffeinated Reviewer

An emotionally riveting read about grief, love and second chances. Anna is a young widow who built a wall around her emotions after losing her husband, Spencer. She calls his cell phone to hear his voice message, but the phone number was reassigned. Brody answers the call, a man who is also suffering not just from grief, but also agoraphobia. Can these two people help each other break through the walls and live again? Well written and recommended. Thanks to Edelweiss for the ARC.

Found this book in one of those little free libraries, but while on an island in the San Juan’s! Started it while camping and finished it at home. A bit slow, but really gets into the characters grief journeys instead of glossing over the harder times. Enjoyable!

I honestly was not prepared for how sad this book would be. It’s mostly about grief and overcoming it and I was prepared for some of that but it really lacked the romance and feel good I expected. I felt like it dragged on a bit and had there been a little less in the middle or a little more of the ending I probably would have rated it higher.

OMG this book will make you laugh and cry and break your heart over and over again. It is a beautiful story about Anna who’s husband was tragically killed and as she struggles to move on after his death she calls his phone number to hear his message again but instead of her husbands voice someone else answers and as she tells them she loves them a strange and wonderful friendship with a stranger that develops and helps each one of them in ways they never thought possible. Sometimes a chance encounter can change your whole life
