This was a fun read with a lot less potential concussion than the first one.

Overall, I liked Joan and Cam. They got to know each other first and realized they liked each other and then Cam figured out her secret and got to see her in that light and realized he still liked her. I did roll my eyes that Joan thought for a second that Cam wanted to annul the marriage and only went through with it because of Ross. Granted, the situation was a little less than probably ideal but still. Cam and Joan never really got to have the "I wanted you but didn't know how to say so" conversation but they still got a "I love you no matter what" conversation so I think it worked out. I did love that even when they were home and Joan and Cam were still sort of finding their footing, Cam was very much in a "my wife" phase.

I did feel like the mystery was added too late and with randomness. Like Finola falls down and then there's the hat pin incident and suddenly everyone is on a "they're after Joan" kick. Don't get me wrong, that had potential but I feel like if it was going to go down that path, something should have started earlier. I feel like a "someone's taking out the competition" line would have fit a little better with the overall storyline. Granted, nothing happened until Joan showed up, but at the same time, it still took a bit longer to get to "maybe Joan's the target" than I feel like it should have.

Being confined to the house for the foreseeable future, I was in the mood for some mindless smut...I sure picked the wrong smut, and ended up finishing this purely out of spite. Please read other low-star ratings for some excellent points regarding the shortcomings of this novel.

I will add these two observations:
1) The modern language and slang, as well as a horrendous overuse (and misuse) of the verb "ken" was annoying and pulled me out of the story.
2) Since several reviewers said that Sands' writing is usually better than this, I might give it one more try. Might. Because I'm still in the mood for mindless smut.
