Maybe it was the writing style or maybe it was a bit fast paced but the story itself didn’t really “suck me in”. I am willing to continue reading the series though, because it has gotten so much praise online. I’m just not sure this series is my cup of tea.

god this was hard to get through. the writing is extremely bland—lots of telling instead of showing, and taking way too many words to describe every single step of an action instead of letting things be implied.

i am not at all interested in sports so that probably didn't help with my enjoyment of the plot. but considering that this is a character-driven novel, i would really have liked some more heartfelt character development instead of these constant, repetitive, edgy interactions between the cast. unfortunately i just ended up feeling like i got absolutely nothing out of this book.

however, i have heard that the series gets much better as it goes, so there's a chance i'll try the second book in the future.
