Love and Other Words is a beautiful and fast-paced love story.
I have heard about this book for about a year now, but didn't really blink an eye since I wasn't the biggest fan of Christina Lauren's other popular release, The Unhoneymooners. It's safe to say that this book exceeded my expectations and almost made me cry on multiple occasions. I borrowed this copy from my cousin, but definitely need to get one for my own collection because I really did/ do love this one.
I read Every Summer After by Carley Fortune last month and it was often compared to this one. I will say this book did the story so much better in my opinion, but both stories are fantastic on their own as well :) It also reminded me a bit of One True Loves by Taylor Jenkins Reid too!
If you're looking for a heartwrenching, childhood-friends-to-lovers story that is heartbreaking in more ways than one, I HIGHLY recommend this one.

LOVED. I devoured this book.
However, for a long time I had this book at 5 stars, but there is one aspect that just marred it all. Unfortunately, it's a pretty large spoiler. I don't mind the thing itself per say, but the way it was handled in the narrative.
My only complaint lies in the way Elliot's sexual assault experience is just brushed under the rug for Macy's tragedy. While, yes, the entire situation was heartbreaking, something about it felt cheap and I wish we'd had the opportunity to break down the fact that he was passed out drunk and saying Macy's name and still Emma had sex with him. I just wish this hadn't been so fully eclipsed by Macy's dad dying. I believe there was space for both events to breathe and be completely processed.

this book was so great up until the very end for me. i loved their friendship and the exploration of themselves and each other, it was super cute and authentic. however the “reveal” or ending was incredibly disappointing to me. also please please check trigger warnings!!!! like why does nobody talk about how elliot was literally r*ped/sa’d??? while it definitely wasn’t wise of him to get drunk at a party with friends that weren’t good influences and with emma (not that it was his fault). it totally disregards how traumatizing that experience must’ve been for him, like it just glazed right over his pain. it didn’t sit right with me. i also don’t know how Macy could ever forgive him for the whole experience being the catalyst to her fathers death. idk maybe i just hold grudges. but the ending definitely kinda soured the book for me which was sad because the rest was amazing :(

why tf was Macy so fucking annoying at the end of the book like honestly I get that you have got mommy, daddy and boyfriend issues but that does not make your problems more important than others. Elliot was raped bitch and you still had the audacity to never talk about it with him, and i get that it's hard losing a parent I could never relate to that thank God. but still don't talk over someone when stuff like this happens just cause it isnt as important as your stuff.

I really like the first 60% it was sweet it made me feel all the feels.. but finding out why they parted ways was for me wasn't communicated in a way that stated what happened to Elliot properly and what is really was?
The lack of willingness to communicate after saying they were best friends and all that is annoying. You don't cut someone off for ten years when they are your soulmate.
