I loved this book. The romance was so wholesome and pure and I loved watching their friendship evolve as they grew up together. It felt really authentic to each age when it was a reflection chapter, it reminded me so much of my own firsts.

I would defo categorize this one as a slow burn because it took foreverrrrr for them to finally admit feelings. Best friends to lovers. Second chance romance.

I felt like
Macy breaking up with Sean was really anticlimactic. It felt too easy and not relatable. I also felt like Elliot gaslit Macy about Emma the whole time and he never really acknowledged or apologized for that. That’s my reason why I couldn’t give it five stars. And sometimes their arguments just circled back around and they repeated things unnecessarily.

Other than that, this book was so incredibly cozy and cute. I loved the focus on family and holidays (I’m totally gonna reread this one around Christmas and Thanksgiving in the coming years) and the romance was adorable. Elliot is swoonworthy.

This book has broken me. Childhood/longtime friends to lovers is my absolute hands down favorite trope. Followed by second chance chance romance. This is both.

The characters in this book are charming and loveable. Macy is extraordinarily relatable and reading from her POV was never distracting. Elliott was very much my type and you just fall in love with him along the way. Their build and chemistry is incredible.

I think part of the reason I like friends to lovers so much is seeing the history and the intimate moments sprinkled throughout. There's something about the way the teenage scenes were written (especially the more intimate ones) that just felt so grounded and real. The imperfection of it all was just heart wrenching.

The climax/twist I guess was jarring, in a good way. It was a little dramatic for my taste but it still made my heartache.

I think I actually wish this book was more chronological than the back and forth. I'm way more drawn to the past scenes (did I reread it already? Yes sorry not sorry) and the present scenes sometimes feel a bit bogged down. And I get the whole Sean thing but i don't like him or the scenes he's in.

This book gave me inspiration to read CL books again. After Josh and Hazel I was really burned (oy, that book) but this one was a masterpiece.

I cried this entire book. So sweet, thoughtful, sexy, etc. A kind of love I wish I had. Absolutely perfect.

Solid romance with good characters, a little steam, plausible scenarios, and some tears at the end.

I honestly don't understand how this author duo can write good stuff like this and The Unhoneymooners, but then also puts out stuff like DY/HY ???

I did take issue with the Elliot past reveal at the end, bad bad vibes honestly.
