This was a super wild ride! I really liked getting to the back story of John and his crew. And!!!!! We got some drama! Not that the previous book wasn’t dramatic lmao.

I was really looking forward to this book, partly because I would finally get to see the Underworld and the mythology this series was built on. And I guess that it was precisely because of that that the book disappointed me a little. We actually spent not that much time in the Underworld at all and it felt like the story didn't progress that much. Hopefully it's simply the middle book syndrome, although it wasn't a bad read at all.

Meg Cabot's writing style is very pleasant and easy to read. It was easy to go through this book in just a couple of hours, which gave me little time to actually get too bored because the plot felt a little lacking this time, or felt at least less interesting than the first book. I love the dialogues and the way her characters speak, it feels very natural and very realistic and that helps to bring the characters to life.

Although I don't really feel the epic chemistry between our two main characters, I do quite enjoy their banter and their way of interacting. I don't think their relationship is completely healthy, but it's at least very entertaining and amusing to read. This is partly because of how they're presented and who they are individually. As a match they're a work in progress, but as individual characters I both like them, actually.

So, all in all a very amusing and entertaining read, but the plot lacked meaning and progress and the mains lack epic chemistry. But I still had a nice afternoon, and that's what it's all about, right?

Wow...was the first thing that came out of my mouth when I finished this book. The second when does the next one come out. I will admit that with my memory and volume of reading maybe I should have waited till all three came out (this seems like a trend in my thinking lately), however once I got back into the story I loved it. It started right where the first book stopped. In the two books I think a total of 5 or 5 days have passed. I love that concept, most books have time gaps between books this one is pretty much continuous and I find that nice. I am also very, very intrigued in how the next book will start. The ending was...not to give anything away....great. In this book we also learned a lot about John and there might be more to Pierce then we may know so far. As I said I can't wait for the next one.

Stockholm syndrome: now with pomegranates! And *white* ball gowns! (yellow is so yesterday, belles).

I admit it; I picked this up on a nice cover, & brought it home on the strength of "Persephone retelling". I adore my myths, plus Meg Cabot, queen of teen, is usually good for some brain-candy... I read all the Princess Diaries books & wouldn't be ashamed to say that. But Underworld? I was stuck on a train/I have a foolish habit of giving my time to books that don't deserve it... Underworld probably didn't.

Nothing actually happens in the few ?days it spans beyond a much rambling from our foolish heroine Pierce, and a lot of manipulation/unhealthiness with her romance with John. I'll concede there was a couple of exchanges I smiled at, damnit, but this book is arguably about a dead demigod kidnapper with the relationship skills of a teenager with serious lying and anger issues, because that's exactly what John is.

Will I read the sequel (I didn't even realize this was a series -_- )? Maybe. Do I think Meg Cabot can and has done miles better than this? Definitely.

Pros-
- There are a few interesting characters (not Pierce or John - they continue to be very unlikable).

Cons:
- Pierce is not an enjoyable narrator to listen to.
- The relationship between Pierce and John goes from unhealthy to extremely toxic. John is controlling and abusive.
- There is some really messed up circumstances regarding Pierce and John having sex. (Not to mention, Pierce is a teenager still and John is a very, very old adult).

Honestly, this book was okay. I really expected more from Meg Cabot, but I guess this genre isn't her best. She needs more contemporary books! =D I just did NOT like the characters at all. sigh. This book was so disappointing, and I hate to say that cause I freaking love Meg Cabot =(
Spoiler
Pierce was pretty dang annoying throughout the entire book, I mean I understand that she would miss her family, but she's also really dumb to agree to stay with John in the Underworld. -_-
John's waaayyyy to overprotective, annoying, and a UGHH.

I absolutely love Meg Cabot, she is my favorite author!! I will say, however, this new series is not my favorite. There is a lot of mythology to keep up with and at times the story seems to get lost

I rated Underwold with 3 stars but i'm quite unsure about it. I'm really not happy about how this turned out.

Pierce is so f* stupid, why does she always forgives John immediately after he's f* things up?

Question remains: am I reading the 3rd book?
