This was a great Indigenous biography read.

I thought it was an interesting book, and specifically found it a fascinating life and story.

Would recommend for fans.

I was intensely impressed by Sainte-Marie. I knew her as a 1960's folk singer and activist, but she was so much more than that, and at 80 years old, continues to be amazing. Her music has spanned generations, and she has kept indigenous rights and education front and center the entire time. Such a wide range of music and success. The actual writing style of the bio was not particularly remarkable, but the author was successful in bringing Buffy's important story out.

Oh cool, I have a new idol! Well written and fascinating look into the intersectionality of a musician and activist who has been labeled many things, but has only ever looked beyond. I am very grateful to have read this book.

I loved Buffy Sainte-Marie before reading this and love her even more afterwards! She is such an incredible, inspiring figure, and hearing her life story gave even more context and meaning to much of her music. I also really liked hearing about the connection between the author and her; it was clear that she had a strong hand in telling her own story.
