i really enjoyed this book. and honestly i liked how the fake dating trope was played and also i thought it was pretty funny
She was cute honestly. I saw it on Amazon and some random person commented the tropes and it was like “fake dating, hockey, clean, high school, he falls first, he falls harder” and I was INSTANTLY SOLD SIGN ME TF UP
I appreciate how clean it was because I fucking love hockey. Like that shit is actually the hottest thing ever oh my LORD. I could go on and on like bro. Not to mention it’s just like, fun to watch and play.
(Specifically when they get subbed out and they go sit on the bench and take their helmet off and they’re holding their stick with one hand between their legs and they’re drinking water with one of the fucking spray gatoraid if bottles? 🤤😍😍😍😍🤤🤤🤤🤤LORD ALMIGHTY IM GONE)
anyways but it’s hard to find hockey romances that actually have a good plot and also where they aren’t going at it every three pages in the most random ahh places. (I’m looking at you ice breaker and the deal - the fuck you mean you pulled over on the god damn highway in the back seat, THE FUCK YOU MEAN IN THE BACK OF THE UBER YOUR ENTIRE FRIEND GROUP IS ALSO IN (rip to that poor Uber driver stay strong brother 😔✊)) anyways, what im trying to say is that I appreciated a hockey romance with a normal plot.
Also it was lowkey just cute, like I loved the scene where Matt and Owen and vi and reed where getting food like idk I’m a fucking sucker for a good friend group (the cheat sheet will forever have the best friend group dynamic 🫶🫶) and also love a good sibling dynamic. Parker was lowkey hilarious but at the same time I don’t super appreciate the whole player thing. Idk I just liked how Matt and Grayson and Parker always made fun of reed and was like “he’s such a goner” it was funny. Speaking of, it was a little weird how he lowkey saw her and then like instantly fell in love? But I guess okay???
Only things I didn’t really like was the whole added drama at the end. In every romance book there’s always some drama at the end and they split up and then someone figures smthn out and they apologize and have some big (usually public) display of love and I always get so much second hand embarrassment but it’s like…okay? But this one …um it was something like I felt like the reason vi wanted to end it with reed was so random? Like bro she’s upset that her cheating ex and her boyfriends #1 opp told her that her fake boyfriend, who she’s using to get said ex to leave her alone, is using her to throw her ex off his hockey game? Like? What? No fucking shit??? Idk I felt like I just didn’t understand why that was so bad for her. But like, whatever life moves on. So she goes to the game. AND HE DID HIS FIGURE SKATING ROUTINE?!?! HELLO?!? STOP!!! PLS DONT BRO PLS DONT THAT WOULD IF ANYTHING CEMENT OUR BREAK UP BC THAT SHITS EMBARRASSING. Not to mention logistically how did he do a figure skating routine in hockey skates? Bc hockey and figure skating bc skates are VERY different. But like, in front of EVERYONE?!? I can’t be dating that bro why why WHY. Just fucking win the game and then talk to me after we don’t need to be doing that. And then u blew me a kiss so it was obviously for me?!? Are you kidding?!? Freaking Cammie was so real for being like “bro wtf stop”anyways it was only like a page so it wasn’t too bad and then it went back to the game but I was like “nooooooooooo”
