emotional lighthearted fast-paced

There was potential here, but at the end of the day there was just too much going on with none of it done as well as it could have been.

Josephine has agreed to take the place of her friend in an arranged marriage because her friend wants to marry someone she's in love with. On the day of the wedding, the groom she was intending to fool surprises her by knowing she's not who she claims to be.

And then we have pages and pages of the FMC weight shaming herself and wondering why a hot guy would pick her instead of a skinny girl and assuming he must be cheating on her.

description

Then there are a whole bunch of things going on with another pack and Josephine's friends, and honestly, it's a lot. Whenever a new problem is introduced, it's solved within a few pages, so there really isn't a lot of suspense with it, and it ends up feeling like it's just thrown in there to expand the page count.

There really wasn't a lot of relationship building between the MMC and FMC, either. They're always fighting and then doing some spanking as punishment for it, and then somehow they're madly in love.

Not for me.

HOLISTIC REVIEW OF 6 BOOK SERIES
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I typically never write reviews but I never see this series recommended so I thought I would write one.

I thoroughly enjoyed The Timber Valley Pack series. I think St. Clair has some great storylines in each book. Each book features a different MF protagonist and each set of protagonists are connected in some way to the following set. Her characters are likable, realistic, and relatable so they were particularly fun to read about. Books 1-3 have a really great overarching storyline concept that builds in each book which is something I really enjoyed. Also, St. Clair has a talent for writing particularly spicy scenes

If this was any longer, I would have given up pretty damn quick. The heroine is probably my least liked character I've ever read. She's got major self esteem issues even though her friends constantly remind her she's getting attention from guys (convenient she remembers that when people tell her that her husband has the hots for her but not before) which is also weird because she's so down on herself, yet at the very beginning she's primping herself in the mirror - yes she looks different, BUT she's organising a DATE! I honestly don't feel some chick who thinks she's a too fat and that no one will ever love her and will always leave her because her mother was like that and she said they were so alike because they're both fat............. you wouldn't bother dating at all lmao. If your self esteem was as bad as this you wouldn't bother because you think no one would ever want you, right?

Anyway she's constantly thinking the whole book that he's only with her to save her friend and when the three weeks is up he'll dump her ass and then she's constantly accusing him of cheating because he won't tell her who's calling or he doesn't spend every waking hour with her. She gave me the biggest headache and she was constantly like 'oh how could someone so hot like me' and 'oh her doesn't love me waaaa' which is crazy since they just met. She legit asks him if he loves her lol.

Anyway, besides the heroine the rest of the book had issues too. For the length of this book, there was WAY too much going on.
Spoiler

So first we have crazy alpha and his family who are abusing their pack, they sell off his niece to marry this guy to get alliance with the heroes pack. That's where the heroine signs up to marry him (magics herself to look like friend and fake marry him so friend can get away). So we get a lot of crazy pack guy, he issues death challenges etc and then there's some cheating magic etc. his other niece is feeding them info to stop him and crazy has a human scientist to make the magic to make him strong to kill the other alphas and take their packs and land. All that in it's self is crazy enough and could have held a story.

But then there's her best friends. Their engaged because she saw his cute poems and assumed they were about her best friend who loved him, he told her so she went to her rich pack and pleaded to marry him and turns out he didn't want to but his pack was trash and made him for the alliance. Turns out he wrote them about heroine and then there's back story on his dad being a crazy psycho who absused the mother and basically this kids the same so he plants this story in heroines head that hero is cheating and steals her and he's locked up his fiancé and wants to kill her with heroines help so they can be together etc.... this shit was all too much for the short time we had, but honestly the two crazy stories would be too much for a regular length book.

Then there's obviously the bdsm type sex that keeps happening, lots of spanking (as punishment because he's alpha and she has to obey, NOT because he asked and she's into that) some of it worked, the alpha shit etc but I felt all the but plugs and floggers and stuff just wasn't needed for a shifter book.

I did like the running and claiming, I didn't like that for a short book it tried to give me a whole new different type of shifter world because it didn't have time and glossed over everything. Shifter counsels, their rules and stuff, the death matches and those who monitor it, healers and shamans etc. there was just SO much going on and not enough time. At all.

I won't be continuing. Not even mad about it.
