This... felt like a first draft, with underdeveloped characters, romance, worldbuilding, and mystery. There was so much potential, but nothing was strong enough to really compel me. There didn't seem to be much urgency to find the missing girls, the reveal of their kidnappers wasn't shocking, the magic of the isle was woven in only when necessary, and I couldn't understand the narrative purpose of any of the protagonists besides Adaira (and even her backstory reveal made no sense since the conflict between the two clans happened largely off-screen and seemed completely baseless).

Not to mention, her marriage to Jack happened way too fast and the idea of a female chieftain needing a husband to protect her during a meeting with her enemies is incredibly antiquated.
