A great prequel to HDM. The characters mostly are new to us as readers so at first, it’s hard to know how the stories connect. It feels a bit different from the original series but is still a great adventure that ties right in and brings you back to the universe.

Loved it!
Pullman has thrown me back into the world of His Dark Materials without relying too much on previous characters or tropes (other than young, adventurous, independent protagonists).
I loved how he threw some new character descriptions in which (deliberately?) go directly against how they were portrayed in the 2007 film.

I enjoyed most of this book, but I didn't like the hovering threat of sexual violence that was used throughout.
I ended up asking my partner who had finished the book whether it was going to come to fruition, and when he confirmed that one of the main characters, an underage girl, is indeed sexually assaulted by an older man, I decided I did not want to continue reading.

I did not like the characters... I liked, it was a year or two ago so maybe it's incorrect, seeing Father Coram and Asriel. I think about that scene at least once a day
with Asriel showing Lyra the moon or showing Lyra to the moon
that's my favourite.
