The book is such a cozy and comforting one ! It has nothing over the top happening but still it is so deep and leaves you pondering on life. I loved the character arc of Eleanor - from having a visibly negative mindset fed into her by her abusive mother in the beginning of the book to gradually having her own positive opinions and judgements. I also LOVED the role of Raymond.
Sometimes all one needs is one helping hand to come out from a very dark place and I loved how Raymond played the role of that helping hand. That Raymond and Eleanor didn’t have any romantic entanglement and the care was purely from a platonic angle was heartwarming. It was good to see that Eleanor was on her way to try to be happy by the end of the book. The book reinforces the fact that how we interact with those around us impact the other person so much ! The book as well as Eleanor was uniquely beautiful. Both will stay with me for a long time ! ❤️

I'll admit, I very nearly put this down after a couple of chapters. I was not connecting to the story or any of the characters. In fact, I was really wondering why this is so popular. But I was listening to it on audio and didn't have another book waiting for me, so I gave it a little more time and I'm glad I did. It didn't take too much more time before I was really invested in Eleanor's journey. The pacing of the revelations about her past is done so very well. I also really appreciated
that her relationship with Raymond stayed platonic, though it's definitely headed to romance. But I was really worried that it would end up being that her relationship with him would "fix" her. His friendship had a massive impact on helping her view herself differently, and he encouraged her to get the help she needed but he didn't try to save her himself other than just as any friend would do.
There are definitely some really dark themes and I don't really think that "funny" is the best word to describe this book, as a lot of professional reviews and cover copies say. But it is a book about working through past trauma, learning how to move forward, and how letting other people into your life is scary and often leads to heartache but is absolutely necessary to be a healthy, happy human.

I picked up Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine on a whim, the audiobook was available on Libby and I was in the mood for some good lit-fic. Little did I know it was going to end up being a 5 star read ⭐ and I would love it so much I had to go buy a physical copy!!!

This book is about Eleanor Oliphant and as the title suggests, she is completely fine- not thriving, not suffering, maybe not even happy. Just completely fine. She has a good job, a place all to her own, and her safe, comfortable routine. Raymond is the new IT help desk guy at their office. When the pair witnesses an old man fall and hit his head on the sidewalk, an unlikely friendship blooms. ☺️

I've said this many times before, but I absolutely love books where the main character is on a healing journey. Eleanor has A LOT of unresolved trauma from her past and this book follows her on her healing journey. Her character arc is truly inspiring, and this book has such a special place in my heart now. Eleanor is a very complex character and she definitely has her quirks but I just adore her. I think a lot of people could relate to her and her story. There were so many times when I wanted to give her a hug!!

At it's core, this book is about friendship and the importance (and power) of human connection. This was such a lovely story! The audiobook was a fine reading experience but I did end up switching to my physical copy once I bought it and liked that better. The narrator's voice doesn't match Eleanor Oliphant in my opinion but it wasn't a big deal.

I really hope Gail Honeyman writes more because this was an amazing debut novel! I don't think this book is for everyone but if you like feel good fiction and a little bit of Fredrik Backman style writing, you should pick this up and give it a try!
