This was a very quick read, and as someone who is addicted to true crime podcasts I thought that this book was going to be right up my alley. However, I didn't find myself as captivated as I wanted to be.
This novel is told in six parts, or "episodes" and is told from the perspective of six different people (twenty years later) who were connected to the victim Tom Jeffries at the time of his disappearance. I thought this format was excellent and it added a level of suspense to the story - I felt as though I were listening to an episode of Dateline or Serial. I listened to the audiobook and would highly recommend this format if you are interested in picking this up, simply due to the fact that it is narrated by a full cast.
Ultimately the reason why I wasn't more captivated by this story is because I simply... didn't care about any of the characters. It was extremely hard for me to feel empathy for Tom as well, because of the way he treated people up until his untimely death. I did enjoy reading from a deeply flawed character though!
If you're into true crime or books involving podcasts I would definitely check this one out!

The premise of this mystery series intrigued me, a man who has a podcast, 6 stories interviews 6 people connected with an unsolved crime. As the interviews go on, the interviewer moves closer and closer to the center of the mystery. A teenage boy disappeared on a fell years ago. His body was found a year later, but the mystery remains unclosed, no one seems to know how he died or where his body was for a year. Could interviewing the people present when the teenager disappeared reveal anything new?
Moderate: Bullying, Child abuse, Death, Drug abuse, Emotional abuse, Grief, and Mental illness
